Otro gran reproductor (con permiso del iPod) es el Zen, de Creative. Al igual que pasa con el reproductor de Apple, el software que trae para que podamos añadir canciones, crear listas, etc. no está disponible para Linux. Hoy por la tarde estuve trasteando con el Zen Micro que tiene mi hermano y, como siempre, Linux me ha dado una alegrí­a. ¿Queréis saber cómo usar el Creative Zen en Linux? Pues venga, a seguir leyendo.

La solución a nuestro problema se llama Gnomad2. Se trata de un gestor de música para los reproductores de Creative y Dell DJ, así­ que no sólo sirve para tu Zen Micro (puedes ver los reproductores que soporta aquí­).

Desde su página web podéis descargar la última versión del programa y compilarla, pero también hay paquetes .deb (Debian, Ubuntu…) o .rpm (Fedora, Mandriva…), pero siempre podéis probar antes a instalarlo desde vuestro gestor de paquetes (apt, aptitude, yum…) de forma mucho más cómoda. Cuando lo estéis instalando, debéis aseguraros de que también os instala la librerí­a libnjb que es la que usa el Gnomad2 (es una API que contiene una serie de funciones para el manejo del protocolo que usan estos reproductores -protocolo PCE, para quien sentía curiosidad-):

Si todo ha ido bien, enchufamos el Zen en el PC, arrancamos el Gnomad2 y:

Como veis, no es más que un navegador de archivos. En la ventana de la izquierda podremos movernos por nuestro sistema y en la de la derecha, tendremos el contenido de nuestro Creative Zen. Podemos decir que sólo muestre las canciones, los datos o las listas de reproducción pulsando en las ventanas correspondientes. Si queremos transferir un archivo de un sitio para otro (PC > Zen, Zen > PC) no tenemos más que seleccionarlo y pulsar el botón con el sentido que nos interesa (muy al estilo de un cliente de FTP gráfico):

Podremos editar el tag de las canciones, borrarlas, añadirlas a una lista… ¿Alguien dijo que Linux era complicado? ;-)

NOTA: Puede haber algunos problemas con este programa en Ubuntu. Si no puedes ejecutarlo, prueba a hacerlo como root:

Best of Show

Wii (Nintendo)

It’s a good thing Nintendo got the name change of its next console out of the way before E3. With the shock of that announcement mostly over, the company proceeded to become the talk of the show (and possibly a fire hazard for the LA Convention Center) by inviting audiences to get their hands on an impressive lineup of fun and interesting software for the Wii…not to mention that wild controller. People practically stampeded to try it out–either that or they waited in line for hours. Yet most of them seemingly still came away more excited than ever by Nintendo’s weird, inspired vision for how gaming could be different. Some important questions remain about how the Wii will finally turn out, but by giving E3 show-goers a taste of what playing games on the Wii will be like, Nintendo seemed to gather much more momentum for the system’s launch later this year. So despite how many great-looking games were on display at this year’s show, the Wii stood out as the single most exciting and remarkable new product at E3 2006.

Set aside your potty humor for a sec (Nintendo’s Wii wins “Best Hardware”? Too easy…) — this console’s legit! While its competitors are improving (bigger, better, prettier) on what’s already out there, Nintendo is moving the game console experience in a different direction altogether. The Wii — with its funky motion-sensing and sound-emitting controller, always-online awareness, and retro-friendly virtual console — promises new, totally fresh gameplay experiences that will appeal to the young and old, hardcore and casual, and even the “cool kids” who won’t mind looking like idiots while frantically waving a piece of plastic in the air. Can one machine really do and be all that? The three-hour lines to see Nintendo’s Wii at E3 seem to indicate, “Hell yes.”
